THE LEGACY OF TALLOW MANOR
Reviewed By Valerie Rouse for Readers’ Favorite on the 07/9/2015 five star
The Legend of Tallow Manor is an entertaining tale based on the romance between Benjamin Rawlings and Elizabeth Gatcombe. This childhood romance blossomed at Tallow Manor in Britain. Elizabeth was from a family of high ranking and Benjamin was the son of the farrier. They literally bumped into each other as children running around the grounds. They immediately liked each other’s company. Elizabeth was having a party and personally invited Benjamin to attend. At the party, Benjamin stood up for Elizabeth when she was insulted by another boy, Grant. Unfortunately, Benjamin got beaten up by Grant and his allies. Elizabeth and Benjamin were then separated. They vowed to never forget each other. Elizabeth was sent to Italy to complete her education. They were later reunited as adults. This time around, Benjamin was the owner of Tallow Manor. As a true gentleman, he offered Elizabeth her old home back as a gift.
The Legacy of Tallow Manor is quite intriguing. It spans a few continents as the main characters were physically poles apart in their adult years. I love the fact that author Terence. J. Goodchild was able to trace the issues of war and slavery in a tasteful manner. The contrast between the genteel, aristocratic life and the working class is quite dramatic. This clearly indicates that life can be truly unpredictable. The ironic twist whereby the two main characters switched positions in their social standing is proof of the creative genius of the author. I also appreciate the plot within the plot feature in this story. The language is semi-formal which reflects the Elizabethan (pun intended) time period of the novel. I enjoyed the extra twists in the plot in terms of the true family heritage of the heroine. The language used is both colloquial and formal as the book encompasses personalities from different social strata. In essence, this novel makes you wish that you could find the type of enduring love that the two main characters share. This book is truly a wonderful read!

“Great story.”

Really enjoyed this book. The author has created a brilliant story of childhood love, sad and tragic events but mixed with many happy moments and humour and a storyline that takes the reader from England to Australia New Zealand and Greece. There were times when it almost brought me to tears, but also times when i laughed out loud.In my honest opinion this story could be made into a T.V. series. It is that good!My best wishes to the author for writing such a brilliant story.

The Legacy of Tallow Manor By Terence J. Goodchild
Childhood friendship! Romance! Deception! Lives intertwined! This epic saga has it all!
Benjamin was a farrier's son, whilst Elizabeth was the daughter of Lord Simon Gatcombe.
Elizabeth lived with her parents and grandmother at Tallow Manor. They were very rich, and had their every needs catered for by a butler and maids. Benjamin lived with his mother and father on the estate grounds.
Elizabeth and Benjamin fell in love, but they were soon to be parted - Elizabeth's mother caught wind of the tender love, and sent Benjamin and his family to Australia to start a new life. The young teenagers were distraught.
Having just reached the coast of Australia, the ship sank, and Benjamin was parted from his parents. They thought he had died, but Benjamin had survived and was finally rescued from a terrible fate, by a kind gentleman named Jonathan, who took him under his wing. Years passed and Benjamin never gave up hope of finding his parents. By now he was a wealthy man. He journeyed to New Zealand, and then back to England, still searching for his parents.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth had been in Italy to finish her schooling, and then became a nurse in France during the war. Her father died and Tallow Manor was to be sold, but who to?....
There's lots more to the story with lives intertwined and recurring characters. On the whole I really enjoyed the unraveling storyline - there were certainly surprises to be read! However, there were negatives. I found the usage of common language to not be in keeping with the era - it was too informal. I gather it was written like this on purpose, but I felt it spoilt it somewhat for me. Regardless, I would thoroughly recommend this read. I feel the story has so much potential that it could even be produced for a television serial!
All in all, I'll give Tallow Hall 4 stars out of 5 👍

"I LOVED THIS BOOK"

I agree with the editorial review that this book could be made into a great TV series.
I have also always been in love with stories where you have people who are close as children but adulthood and the forces of the world pull them apart. Yet those early relationships impact them.
The reunion with the actual people would bring them full circle and whole. This common experience is at the heart of this expertly told story.

This book was a little long for me. But I enjoyed it. I was not sure would because the cover reminded me of a black and white movie. But I was very presently surprised that the characters were well written and the story one was intriguing. * I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review*
